What is Tax Day?
Tax Day is the deadline for filling taxes on income earned the prior year. Typically, April 15th is the set deadline date unless the date falls on a weekend or holiday then there will be an extended deadline date. This year’s Tax Day will fall on a Sunday, so the actual deadline date will be April 17th. The District of Columbia celebrates Emancipation Day which falls on Monday. Taxpayers who want to file for an extension must submit their request by April 17. Therefore, taxpayers who filed the extension deadline is October 15, 2018. For those who live outside of the United States deadline is June 15, 2018 and also for 2017 contributions to an individual retirement account. The Internal Revenue Services started processing returns on January 22, 2018.
