The Chicago Half marathon will descend upon Chicago this coming weekend. The 23rd annual race will take place on Sunday, September 29th.
The half Marathon & 5K is centered around Chicago’s historic Jackson Park, which was once home to the historic 1893 World Columbian Exposition. Drivers should be ready for reroutes as the race will completely shut down Lake Shore Drive. The course is scheduled to run through both Chicago’s South Shore and Hyde Park neighborhoods. Lake Shore Drive will close at 6 a.m. from 31st to 67th street Sunday morning.
During the course of the marathon, runners will also explore the Museum of Science and Industry Campus. Then they will embark on the north and south Lake Shore Drive lanes for the grand finish at the Statue of the Republic or the “Golden Lady” as she is also known by most Chicagoans.
Did you know the Chicago half marathon is ranked as one of the top 10 half marathons in the United States? That fastest male time ever recorded was 1:05:03 by Andrzey Krzyscin back in 2003 and the fastest female time was Megan O’Neil’s time of 1:10:18 in 2012.
Once the race is completed, you will have access to the Finish Festival in Jackson Park. Chicago’s own Home Run Inn will provide their renowned pizza. There will also be a beer Garden and a live concert for all to enjoy.
With major arterial road closures, planning your trip to the race is critical.
You can do your part by helping to reduce our carbon footprint! We also highly recommend carpooling as a way to save time and money on race day.
