What to Expect
How may spectators are we expecting? Close to 1.7 million. Will you be part of the entourage? It’s probably running right through your neighborhood! The race will begin and end in Grant Park. The course will strategically run through 29 of the 77 neighborhoods in Chicago.
Did you know?
Did you know the race is made up of 53% male and 47% female? The first female ran the marathon in 1967 and was the first female to finish an all male race.
Did you know history was made this year? The fastest woman completed the race in record breaking time at 2:14:04! Her name is Brigid Kosgei and she is a winner!
Over 1.3 million cups of water was on hand on race day…that’s 60,000 gallons of water! There was over 12,000 volunteers helping out at the 42nd annual marathon. They had volunteers from organizations all over from medical centers, to triage, to information only and VIP Runner escorts. Volunteers also handed out 55,000 apples, meal bars and bananas for the runners. There will also be over 12,000 international runners participating next year.
But wait there’s more!
What’s a race without a celebration? Dozens of sponsors will be on hand next year to show the spectators and runners some love.
As you begin to plan for next year…don’t forget to adjust your travel accommodations due to street closures and limited parking. Throughout the city, main arterial streets will set the stage for the runners. However, we have a solution. Leave the driving to us!
